Geography

Dave was first introduced to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) while in high school. He has been working in this field for the majority of his professional career.

He graduated from Lakehead University with a Bachelor of Arts in Geography.

He is interested in the fields of geomatics, Open Data initiatives, interoperability, project management, Science and Policy integration.

Currently he works for the Canadian Federal Public Service in the department of Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). As part of the Corporate Services Branch enterprise data management program Dave provides support to projects that improve the departments overall capacity to manage scientific and environmental monitoring data. The major output of ECCC’s Data Management Program is to provide Canadians access to ECCC data through the governments open data initiative.

Previously he worked in the Department of Natural Resources (NRCAN) in many technical positions including that of CGDI Technologist providing advise on Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI) and data dissemination systems. The Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI) is Canada’s network of geospatial data product offerings available online. He was working with in the Earth Sciences Sector, Mapping Information Branch, Data Dissemination Division as part of the Geospatial applications team.
